Always Learning

Hello friends,

We just returned from another trip nearly half as long as our recent adventure to Central and South America.  We journeyed back to the Midwest for some fun family events. The trip was fun, and we enjoyed reconnecting with many friends and family. For me, however, it was a bit too close to our recent trip and I felt scattered and ungrounded.

Ayurvedically speaking, I tend towards Vata.  When balanced, my Vata-ness keeps me open-hearted and open-brained. When unbalanced, my Vata-ness can make me unable to focus.  The balance comes in the form of yoga, meditation, exercise, nourishing foods, time spent outdoors, traveling by foot and a lot of other little things. When traveling, I find that completing chores (like laundry, taking out the recycling, cleaning the sheets, emptying the refrigerator) in advance of departure and packing several days before leaving help me feel grounded. Also, flying itself can be very aggravating, so I find that bringing my own food, practicing yoga and listening to relaxing music can help make time spent in the airport and on the plane less crazy.

I did none of this.

I literally had no clean clothes the morning of takeoff as I frantically threw clothes into a suitcase. That was only the beginning of my mistakes. And I know better. Luckily, every day is an opportunity to bring actions back into a more graceful place. The days I walked or biked, I felt more like myself. The days I practiced yoga, I felt more like myself. And last night when we returned home, we rode the train and walked the last 10 blocks from the airport under a sunny sky. That was the perfect beginning to my return to center.

What practices keep you feeling most like YOU?

ALL LOVE!

P.S. I’m teaching tonight at Heart Fire Yoga! 5:45pm, level 1-2. I would love to see you there!
