ASTROLOGY Resources

If you’ve ever been to one of my classes or listened to a guided practice from my shop, chances are you’ve heard me talk about astrology. It’s a big part of my daily practice and has been for most of my adult life. For me, studying the celestial bodies is another way of honing my capacity for concentration and the quality of attention. By noting how I feel when the moon squares mars, I am paying exquisite attention. By noticing how the rest of the world responds to a Venus retrograde, I’m honoring how we truly are in this together.

A simple way to begin: Because the moon is so close (relatively speaking), it’s a wonderful way to begin a practice of noticing. Start as simply as possible– can you see the moon now? Where is it in the sky? What does it look like? What time of day is it? Begin by just looking up.

A slightly deeper dive: As you notice the moon and its relative qualities, notice yourself. Where are you? What “phase” are you in? (Full energy, shining everywhere? In a cave of ideas and dreams?)

In the spirit of encouraging as much noticing practice as possible, I thought I’d share some of my go-to resources for learning about the moon, stars and planets.

Here are my most beloved resources related to the moon & stars:

Online Resources

  • Chani Nicholas: Chani has been called “the people’s astrologer,” and I cannot sing her praises highly enough. Chani centers her exquisite teachings around social justice and “believes the personal is political, art is magic, and that all should have access to the healing practices that we need.” Chani shares free horoscopes, playlists on Spotify and paid courses on a variety of astrology topics. (I have taken a number of her courses and recommend! Most recently, I learned SO MUCH in her YOUR MONEY workshop.)
  • Heidi Rose Robbins: Heidi shares notes and inspiration based on the transits of the moon EVERY DAY on Instagram, for free! She is really a gift. She brings a lightness, boldness and creative spirit to her writing. In addition to these daily Moon Notes, Heidi shares interviews and monthly astrological deep-dives on her podcast “The Radiance Project.” Heidi also has online and in-person workshops combining poetry and astrology.
  • Paramatma Siri Sadhana: Paramatma teaches me everyday. It was in her teaching that I started to realize the universality of astrology: how it was less about “me and my story” and more about “we’re all in this together.” Whether you have Capricorn in your fourth house or Leo rising, the positioning of the planets today affects all of us in ways that are similar. Paramatma shares her teachings, along with Kundalini yoga practices and recommendations in her daily Space Weather Transmissions. It’s not free, but for a serious student of astrology, it is a game-changer.
  • Renee Sills: Renee was a guest on the podcast! She is a student of Heidi Rose Robbins and an ever-evolving yogini and artist. Renee shares astrology teachings over on her website, Embodied Astrology.

Books

  • Atrology/ Karma & Transformation, by Stephen Arroyo. Caveat: this is not a book for beginners. This book looks primarily at astrology from the perspective of identifying habitual patterns (karma). It is truly a deep-dive from this angle, especially de-mystifying the role that the outer planets can play in some super-ancient grooves (samskaras) in the psyche.
  • For a beginner’s look at chart interpretation, I have been using Stephen Arroyo’s Chart Interpretation Handbook. I like it, but I’m interested in checking out a few others.
